Bernadette (musician, holistic health practitioner) offers online workshops to counter the pandemic stress through music and sound therapy. In 1972, Bernadette became one of the first Asian-American TV child personalities as a cast-member on Emmy award-winning, ZOOM (PBS-TV) spawning her interest in TV production and music (Tanglewood Festival Chorus, Boston Symphony Orchestra). In 1989, Bernadette sustained an injury resulting in her search for healing and pain relief through complementary medicine. She received her BA degree studying telecommunications and music (Indiana University), and a 4-year certification from the Barbara Brennan School of Healing (2005), and Reiki certification. Through intense trainings, working with cancer survivors, child abuse victims, and her personal journey of awakening and healing, Bernadette developed sound therapies to support those who experience chronic illness, stress, and grief. Bernadette is recording her 4th healing music album to support releasing trauma, pain management, and spiritual growth.

She has a private practice near Boston, MA where her acoustically resonant space reflects vibrations of healing sounds, music, and energy for transformation and optimal wellness.  Bernadette leads Mind Body Sound Therapy workshops at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in Harvard, MA. Bernadette has led sound healing workshops for health care facilities, yoga studios, and wellness events such as Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, PRIMED East 2019 Conference in Boston, MA. Bernadette was invited as a guest instructor for a Master Class in Sound Healing and Cancer at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in Florida.  Presently, during the Covid-19 crisis, Bernadette is seeing clients online through Zoom for private energy/sound healing sessions, and leads workshops and sound meditations online using her state of the art sound recording equipment for optimum quality in sound vibrational healing.


With four years of intensive training and certification at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing and a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in music and telecommunications, Bernadette specializes in designing and leading Mind Body Music & Sound Healing Workshops, and offers music for yoga classes in Massachusetts and surrounding New England.  As a classically trained singer and pianist since the age of 7 years old, Bernadette is a multi-instrumentalist using a collection of over a dozen Alchemy crystal singing bowls, quartz crystal singing bowls, and Himalayan singing bowls, acoustic guitars, harmonium, keyboards, Native American flutes, percussive instruments, as well as using her singing voice to facilitate deep relaxation and optimal healing.  While still attending high school, Bernadette studied music theory at Wellesley College, and later was accepted as a Voice Performance Major at the prestigious IU Jacobs School of Music where she continued her music studies.  Recently, Bernadette studied Music Production & Engineering at Berklee College of Music earning certifications to teach two popular DAW softwares, ProTools and Reason.  As a certified Brennan Healing Science Practitioner since 2005, Bernadette works through hands-on energy and sound healing techniques combined with spiritual and psychological processes to help create transformative experiences for her clients.


Prior to her role in the Healing Arts, Bernadette was a classical music vocalist, singer songwriter, recording artist, and back-up singer for performers including Grammy Award winning singer songwriter, Suzanne Vega. She sang with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and toured with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a soprano chorus member for over 10 years.  As part of her practice, Bernadette is a composer, producer, and recording artist of three music meditation albums which are used in hospitals and wellness spas all over the world: Radiance Healing Music for Mind, Body and Spirit © 2005 Bernadette Yao, Light Embracing © 2012 Bernadette Yao, and Reiki Healing Wisdom © 2015 Bernadette Yao.  Bernadette was the founder of her music for meditation performance trio, Healing Wave Trio, performing original meditation music compositions by Bernadette Yao.  The trio included Bernadette (voice, guitar, Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls), Deanna Johnson (flute), and Rebecca Swett (harp).


Additionally, Bernadette is a certified Reiki practitioner offering individualized energy healing sessions and group workshops in music, sound, and energy therapies. With this training, Bernadette volunteered for 8 years as a Cancer Care Therapist specializing in music, sound and energy vibration therapy at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden. 


Before becoming an energy and sound healing practitioner, Bernadette worked in the TV industry as an on air TV talent/producer with PBS, WGBH, WHDH, and corporate videos. She was a model for Maggie, Inc. Her TV career began as a cast member on the Emmy-Award winning PBS children’s show, Zoom. Bernadette has appeared on PBS and WGBH as a TV Host.
